Mark and Jenny at Three Hills Barn originally approached us to discuss a delicious new venture (details coming soon), but as part of this, we felt that the three areas of their businesses would all benefit from a rebrand to create a more consistent overall feel, to reinforce the brand message and cross-market.
We therefore set to on a rebrand of their Wedding Barn business and a complete redesign of the website. Jenny wanted to keep the branding monochrome, and loved the lino-cut effect for a handmade rustic feel. They wanted something with bags of character but that was simple and reflective of their area.
Having recently rewilded a lot of the family farm, and in the process of going organic, wildflowers and native plant species abound. The whole feel of the place is very relaxed, spacious and welcoming and we wanted this to come across in the website; through tone of voice, branding, and overall design.
We began by pulling out a sketchbook and sketching ideas in black pen. Linocuts are notoriously time consuming so we wanted to see if there was a way to get a similar simple effect. We also wanted there to be more organic lines within the site, something a little more real and rustic, like the venue itself.
A suite of sketches were created that could be combined and used individually to add general texture and interest to the site, but allow the white space and the beautiful photography of the barn to speak for itself.
